All about MKM Penrith’s directors

25 years ago, David Ware and David Westgarth met while working at a Penrith-based builder’s merchant, and, after honing their skills in a variety of roles in the intervening years, are now delighted to have opened their own branch.

Having worked in the industry for so long, the duo’s combined experience gives them a detailed understanding of the challenges faced by merchants and builders. Determined to create a recourse, David and David and their team are proud to offer first class service with a friendly face.

Well known in the Penrith area, both the branch directors and the team behind them are a well-oiled machine of helpful advice and expert assistance to anyone who asks. A majority of their staff have worked alongside them for years, bringing a genuine family feel to the Penrith branch. With a combined total of more than 200 years experience in the sector, the team are ready to offer Penrith their expert knowledge from a state-of-the-art builder’s yard, trade counter and kitchen & bathroom showroom.

David Ware said: “We have a really good team ethos here, which really does feel like a family run business. Part of the reason behind this is that David and I know we can trust and rely on everyone to deliver their very best. Everyone working here is an expert, and we all value exceptional customer service and want to deliver that to the local community.

“I know that for trade having a good relationship with a merchant is essential, a locally owned merchant even more so. That’s the beauty of MKM; David and I have lived in Penrith all our lives, and we know our clients, we’re doing this for them because we care about the trade in Penrith and want to provide them with best possible level of service.”

Westgarth added: “For us, opening the branch was a no brainer, it was a way to support the community we care about and provide a recourse to the area that will benefit a lot of local tradespeople.

“MKM isn’t what a lot of people would imagine when you say builder’s merchant. We are not only a one stop shop for trades, but welcome consumer clients as well, and can offer everything from your standard tools and building necessities to a stunning kitchen and bathroom showroom.”

The newly-opened Penrith branch has also announced a partnership with the local Jigsaw Children’s Hospice, which supports children living with illness and their families across Cumbria. Like most charities, they have struggled through the pandemic, with their ability to fundraise cut off by lockdowns and social distance. Never the less, they have continued their work and are looking forward to being able to provide more support in the years to come.

Ware and Westgarth are both thrilled to be able to support the area they have lived in all their lives. In addition to supporting Jigsaw, David and David are also pledging their support to several local sports clubs, including Penrith Cricket Club, Penrith Football Club Academy and are sponsoring the Penrith Rugby Club’s Under 15s Girls team training kit.

In his spare time, David Westgarth likes to spend time with his wife and 19-year-old daughter. David Ware has two children, both of whom now work for the NHS, one as a doctor and the other as a dietician. The pair are also keen golfers and members of the Penrith Golf Club.

MKM Penrith is a state-of-the-art addition to Cowper Road, conveniently located for the trade and general public.  The site is a one-stop-shop for all building products, well equipped to provide quality materials to the community around it.   This includes workwear and building supplies, suitable for plumbing, electrical work, joinery landscaping and construction.

This extensive range of products and services is backed up with MKM’s commitment to providing a friendly, expert and first-class service, from estimating services to free same day or next day local deliveries.
