It’s all about bikes for Beverley’s Branch Director, Andy!

With Yorkshire’s biggest cycling event just around the corner, it’s fair to say the annual occasion is causing a bit of a stir amongst our Yorkshire branches!

Andy Beet, Branch Director of our Beverley Branch, is a cycling enthusiast and loves nothing more than relaxing from a day’s work with a ride out on his bike – even though he likes cycling with his customers, too! We got chance to chat to Andy about his interesting hobby, and find out why both he and his customers are looking forward to April’s biking bonanza…

Question: How do you fit in cycling around work?
Answer: I normally cycle a couple of evenings during the week, after work (especially when it’s light nights) and on a Saturday or Sunday morning, weather permitting. We will normally do 30 miles on an evening ride and up to 80 miles on a Saturday ride!

Question: Do any of your colleagues or customers get involved with cycling events?
Answer: I usually cycle with a number of customers. I’ve got around 8/10 customers that like to go out regularly.

Question: Tell us about some of your favourite routes in Yorkshire.
Answer: We ride many different routes around Beverley and the Wolds. There are some really nice routes to take from Beverley.

Question: Do you support or sponsor any cycling teams?
Answer: We have sponsored the Squadra Team in recent years, which are one of the top amateur teams in Yorkshire.

Question: What’s your best cycling memory?
Answer: My best cycling memory was riding the sportive at the inaugural Tour De Yorkshire in 2015, which took in some amazing scenery around The Yorkshire Dales and finished in Leeds. The crowds were amazing and really helped us get through some of the tough climbing challenges along the way.

Question: What’s the longest distance you’ve managed to cycle in one day?
Answer: The furthest I have cycled in one day is 120 miles. On two occasions I have cycled from the Humber Bridge to London (over two days) and the second day is 120 miles from Peterborough to Buckingham Palace

Question: Who is your cycling hero?
Answer: I don’t have a favourite cyclist, but always look out for Mark Cavendish, Chris Froome and Bradley Wiggins.

Question: What’s your favourite cycling event?
Answer: Tour de France is my favourite cycling event, followed by Tour de Yorkshire
