MKM Building Supplies lands a spot in the Top Track 250

MKM is delighted to announce it has climbed 69 places in the Sunday Times’ Top Track 250, to position 70.

In 2014 MKM Building Supplies was ranked 201st, and last year the company took the 139th place in the list, showing huge year-on-year improvement.

David Kilburn, founder and executive chairman of MKM, said: “Being featured among the UK’s top private companies is an outstanding achievement, and a real testament to the hard work of everyone employed by MKM Building Supplies.

“Following the launch of the Honiton branch in Devon, we now have 44 branches open across the UK, with plans to expand further in 2017 – so we’re eyeing up a position in the top 50 for next year’s league table.”

The Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250 league table ranks Britain’s private mid-market growth companies with the biggest sales. MKM netted sales of £252m in 2015.

The league table and awards programme is sponsored by Grant Thornton, and compiled for the 12th year by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events firm.

Sacha Romanovitch, chief executive of Grant Thornton UK LLP, the title sponsor of the league table, praised the companies for their performance, saying: “In the wake of the EU referendum it is more important than ever that businesses, and the public and the third sectors work together to help the UK to build on its strengths and ensure that the economy continues to grow.

She added: “I am heartened to see how these businesses are embracing a collaborative approach to drive prosperity throughout the UK and wider society.”

Of the 250 companies included, 26 are headquartered in Yorkshire, including food producer William Jackson (which took position 60 in the league) and Maplin Electronics (in 84th position).

The top spot in the league was snagged by health club chain Virgin Active, which netted sales of £631m in 2015.
