MKM Peterlee Does DIY SOS – Making Dreams Come True

Hartlepool DIY SOSIf you have ever watched BBC One’s DIY SOS programme, you will know that there is usually not a dry eye in the room when the project is finally completed. This was certainly the case when our kind hearted Peterlee branch offered their help and support to the programme to make a disabled pensioner’s dreams come true.

MKM Peterlee donated railway sleepers, planters, Astro-Turf and a pergola for the garden design aspect of the build to enable 64 year old June Finlay, who can barely talk, walk or use her hands due to a condition sparked by pneumonia, to enjoy the outside area of her home.

Simon Preston at Peterlee said: “June couldn’t get out in the garden for fresh air and the BBC team visited the branch numerous times over the nine days, sometimes popping in six or seven times a day to stock up. It was quite emotional to see the finished product, even Nick Knowles was emotional! We are very proud to have been involved.”
