A garden in the King’s Lynn Queen Elizabeth Hospital has had a much-needed makeover thanks to local volunteers from Tesco and MKM.
Before the community stepped in, the garden of the Shouldham Cancer Unit was just an area of patchy grass, which didn’t give patients much to look out on to.
Laura Gathercole, community champion for Tesco Extra King’s Lynn, approached MKM for support on the project following a recommendation from her father – a builder and regular customer of the merchants.
Keen to help such a worthwhile cause, the branch supplied the project with 10 bulk bags of 20mm gravel (which was barrowed and laid in one day!) and a roll of 4.5x100m membrane.
On day one of the project MKM King’s Lynn staff Paul Damon (lorry driver) and Perry Sands (sales team member) went down to the site at 6.30am before the hospital got busy, to deliver the goods. Here are the lads in action:
The volunteers have transformed it by gravelling over the area and creating raised flower beds, planting trees with bird feeders and installing some benches.
Mark Sexton, General Manager at MKM King’s Lynn, said the team were proud to have helped such a worthy cause and thanked the Tesco King’s Lynn’s community team for letting MKM play a part in their fantastic work.
