The Lincoln branch are proudly sponsoring two local lads on their epic mission to break the world record for the youngest pair to row the Atlantic whilst raising £100,000 for Breast Cancer Care.
Local chaps Luke Birch and Jamie Sparks, both aged 21, will set off from La Gomera in the Canaries to try and break this world record in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
The 3,000 nautical mile race is hailed as the world’s toughest rowing race which will take around 50 days of non-stop rowing, day and night, burning around 10,000 calories a day. The boys’ ‘fuel’ will be dehydrated food made up with sea-water, desalinated using solar power and their tiny boat has just one minuscule cabin for shelter and rest.
Ian Kirby, Lincoln Branch Director and his team are extremely honoured to sponsor these boys. “More people have gone into space than rowed the Atlantic,” comments Ian, “so we are very excited to be sponsoring Luke and Jamie’s boat and ultimately helping them to raise thousands for Breast Cancer Care.”
