We caught up with MKM Grantham’s newest member of the team; kitchen specialist Sarah Hewitt to get some insights on the latest kitchen trends, hints and tips for kitchen customers and her favourite styles.
Sarah joins Shelley Evans in the Kitchens team at Grantham to offer customers more advice and knowledge, to help bring your dream kitchen to life!
Why do you have a passion for kitchens?
As a keen home cook, I understand how important it is to have a functional and inviting space to create wonderful family meals that bring everyone together. I believe having this can change the way you live for the better.
What first excited you about wanting to work at MKM?
I like the fact that MKM make their focus about wanting to trade with local people and with their intended growth for the future I really think it’s a great time to join. Another plus point was the fact that they sell Symphony kitchens which are a well-known quality kitchen supplier that is manufactured in the UK.
What questions do customers most commonly ask when it comes to deciding on their kitchen?
1. Do I have room for an island? 2. What choice of worktops are there? 3. What colours will look best with the space and light that I have?
What kitchen trends have been particularly popular this year?
Colour wise, greys in gloss and matt, indigo blue in matt, and gloss white. In terms of units, a large bank of tall larder units is a strong trend.
What kitchen trends do you see coming up in 2021?
A larder unit with adaptable shelving and drawers is a big trend, the kitchen island is another trend that is being seen, along with marble veined worktops, open displays and statement lighting as people incorporate their kitchens in their living and dining spaces.
The trend for different colour wall and base units will grow in popularity as people start to be a lot braver with their choices.
Do you have any hints and tips for customers buying a new kitchen?
Really think about the way you use your kitchen on a daily basis, and don’t get hung up on the couple of days a year when you have to accommodate a large crowd of family and friends. Think about what features you cannot live without, whether it’s a boiling water tap, an internal split bin for your household waste and recycling or accessible space for that expensive food mixer that you hardly use. Another factor is how long you will be living in the house for and the amount of time you will spend in the room which will also help when you are deciding on a budget.
What’s your favourite kitchen available at MKM?
The Alta matt in MKM’s just launched new colours Bottle Green and Dusky Pink, which keys in to the trend for mixing colours to add interest and individuality and I would team this with the White Arabesque quartz worktop and finish it off their new matt brass pull handles
