This week saw the Trilby Tour bus roll into town with MKM firmly in the driving seat at Hull Golf Club.
Day 1 saw MKM hold their corporate golf day with 21 teams of 4 taking part. Starting the day with a full English breakfast buffet and refreshments to whet the appetite for what promised to be a fabulous day.
10am saw the shotgun start and the competition begin. In addition to the superb team prizes up for grabs MKM were offering four exclusive places for the sold out Trilby Two’s main event Thursday 11th August. An individual stableford was ran alongside the team event and those with the highest scores went through to a “Shoot Out”, one shot, nearest to the pin eliminator with the four nearest going through to the Trilby Two’s proper!
The golfers enjoyed blue skies and sunshine, with many complements about the quality of the course and the great job the green keepers had done. The lightning fast greens & tricky pin positions meant scoring was difficult for all.
VPAR’s Live Scoring App http://www.vpar.com/home was used during the round, which allowed each team to see, real time, where they were positioned on the leaderboard at any time. Scoring ebbed & flowed throughout as teams sprung up the rankings following birdies and eagles, but slumped after the dreaded dropped shots. Kingspan & Stonemarket each made steady progress as the round progressed, eventually finishing 4th & 3rd on -11 and -12 respectively. Hanson Cement made a tremendous start, being 12 under par after just 6 holes, they stalled mid-round but rallied to finish second on -14. Ultimately though, there could be only one winning team, Tarmac Building Products surged to the top of the leaderboard after 10 holes and maintained their advantage right to the finish, ending on a fantastic score of -16. Their team, consisting of Ian Broad, Bevan Browne, Noel Shanahan and Ian Pratt each received a great prize, but also the adulation of the crowd!
Once the golf had concluded teams were treated to a champagne reception and late lunch along with entertainment in the form of Comedy Impressionist Les Gibson, BGT finalist and Les delighted the crowd focusing on sports impersonations with the likes of Golf’s – Woods, Mickleson, Harrington and Els, of particular relevance to the event and audience.
It was then back outside for the “Shoot Out” with 11 golfers trying for those sought after Trilby Two spots. After a tense shoot out the winners were Bill Acton (Lecico), Dave Collier (Kingspan), Mick Hughes (Symphony) and Chris Newell (Kingspan).
Day two was the Trilby Two’s being filmed by Sky Sports. Our four lucky winners enjoyed another great day of golf, after a slightly damp start, the rain subsided to leave a cloudy but very blustery day. 70 pairs competed hard throughout, with those in the second half of the draw seeing more favourable conditions, which was reflected in the scoring. MKM’s five pairs (including those who won through the “Shoot Out”) all performed admirably, with David Kilburn and Jon Samuel leading the way with 35 points. Whilst this fell 2 points short of the total required to win through to the Playoffs, all 10 players thoroughly enjoyed their Trilby Tour experience.
David Kilburn commented “We have had another fabulous two days. The club have been impeccable hosts, and with the course in such superb condition everyone has had a great experience. We must thank all of our suppliers for their continued support, without which such days just couldn’t go ahead. It was great to see so many of our customers present too, both sets of people really make these days very special. I am also delighted to announce; we have confirmed that MKM will again be the main sponsor when the Trilby Two’s returns to Hull Golf Club in 2017. It’s fantastic for the area, the club and MKM”.
A huge thank you to the supporting suppliers yet another great MKM event and Hull Golf club for hosting an excellent event.
